New Passport Requirement

As you may have already heard, the State Department recently announced that, effective JANUARY 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport to enter the United States.

At the present time, this requirement does not extend to land and sea travel, but this could happen as early as January 1, 2008.

For additional information, please contact us or visit the State Department website http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html

Legislation Watch: Immigration Reform

The 109th Congress adjourned in December without passing legislation to reform U.S. immigration laws, provide H-1B cap or immigrant visa backlog relief. Given the transfer of power in the 110th Congress, however, we do expect to see some significant changes to the law in 2007; indeed, a number of bills have already been introduced. We will keep you apprised as legislation develops which is likely to impact your business.

For additional information on pending legislation, please visit
http://www.aila.org or http://thomas.loc.gov/
